What We Believe
First Pentecostal Church of Arcadia is a United Pentecostal church. We believe the Bible is the Word of God and that the message preached by Jesus and the apostles is still the message for the church today.
We Believe in One God
We are monotheistic. We believe there is one God, and that God has revealed Himself in Jesus Christ. Jesus is not a second god or a separate divine person beside God; He is the fullness of God manifested in flesh.
- Deuteronomy 6:4
- Isaiah 43:10–11
- John 1:1–14
- John 10:30
- John 14:9
- Colossians 2:9
- 1 Timothy 3:16
We Believe in the New Birth
Jesus taught that a person must be born again, born of water and of the Spirit. The apostles preached this New Testament message through repentance, baptism in the name of Jesus Christ, and receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost.
- John 3:3–5
- Acts 2:38–39
- Titus 3:5
Repentance
Repentance is a turning from sin and a turning toward God. It includes godly sorrow, surrender, and a changed direction of life through faith in Jesus Christ.
- Luke 24:47
- Acts 2:38
- Acts 3:19
- 2 Corinthians 7:10
Baptism in Jesus’ Name
We baptize in the name of Jesus Christ because that is the name preached and practiced in the book of Acts. Baptism is not merely a symbol of church membership; it is part of the biblical response to the gospel and is connected with remission of sins, burial with Christ, and putting on Christ.
- Acts 2:38
- Acts 8:12–17
- Acts 10:44–48
- Acts 19:1–6
- Romans 6:3–4
- Galatians 3:27
- Colossians 2:12
- 1 Peter 3:20–21
Receiving the Holy Ghost
We believe receiving the Holy Ghost is part of the New Testament experience of salvation. In Acts, believers received the Holy Ghost, and this experience was connected with supernatural evidence and a transformed life of worship, power, holiness, and witness.
- Acts 2:1–4
- Acts 2:38–39
- Acts 8:14–17
- Acts 10:44–48
- Acts 19:1–6
- Romans 8:9–11
Holiness and Discipleship
Salvation leads to a life of discipleship. We believe God calls His people to worship, holiness, love, service, prayer, fellowship, and faithful obedience to Scripture.
- Romans 12:1–2
- 2 Corinthians 7:1
- Hebrews 12:14
- 1 Peter 1:15–16
