Baptism in Jesus’ Name
First Pentecostal Church of Arcadia baptizes in the name of Jesus Christ because that is the apostolic pattern shown in the New Testament church.
The Apostolic Pattern
In the book of Acts, baptism was performed in the name of Jesus Christ or in the name of the Lord Jesus. These examples are important because Acts records how the apostles obeyed Jesus’ command and preached the gospel after the resurrection.
- Acts 2:38
- Acts 8:16
- Acts 10:48
- Acts 19:5
Connected to the Gospel
Baptism is connected to the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Through baptism, we are buried with Christ and raised to walk in newness of life.
- Romans 6:3–4
- Colossians 2:12
Connected to Remission and Identity
Peter connected baptism in Jesus’ name with remission of sins. Paul wrote that those baptized into Christ have put on Christ. This is why baptism is not treated as a casual ceremony, but as a serious and obedient response to the gospel.
- Acts 2:38
- Galatians 3:27
- 1 Peter 3:20–21
